Spheros Invests to Grow in Brazil

Spheros, a global leader in thermal solutions for commercial vehicles, is focusing on the mobility segment and investing to expand in Brazil and Latin America. The company is the leading supplier of air conditioning systems for buses in Brazil, holding a 65% market share, and exports to Mexico, the United States, China, Turkey, and other markets.

“We leveraged Lat.Bus 2024, the premier passenger road transport event in Latin America, held in early August, to showcase the new Spheros Brazil. This is the second-largest operation of the Spheros Group worldwide and the largest in air conditioning system production for buses. We also launched new products, such as urban bus air conditioning systems with increased cooling capacity and the Revo®-E Global, an air conditioning system for electric buses with an Eco Mode function for energy savings,” explains Luís Sacco, Director of Spheros Brazil.

In addition to the new air conditioning systems, recent launches from Spheros include new software for Double Decker buses, offering simple operation and detailed diagnostics of the air conditioning system to ease maintenance work for operators, with connection ports for telematics.

Headquartered in Germany and present in 11 countries, Spheros focuses on the development and production of climate control solutions and electronic products for the bus market. The brand was associated with Valeo from 2016 until early this year. Now owned by HIG Capital, it invests and focuses on developing new products and solutions to keep pace with the evolution of sustainable mobility, including new electric and renewable-fuel-powered vehicles.

Growth Focused on Sustainability and Emission Reduction

Spheros has a sustainable growth plan for the coming years, aiming to increase the supply of air conditioning systems for urban buses and launch new products. “Brazil, along with the modern and comprehensive R&D center in Germany, is developing climate control solutions that offer more operational efficiency, energy savings, and utilize recyclable materials,” highlights Luís Sacco. The goal is to launch this innovative product line in the second half of 2025.

According to the executive, transport operators are acquiring more vehicles with climate control as they elevate service quality and offer more comfort to passengers. “The adoption of air-conditioned vehicles is growing in large and medium-sized cities in Brazil. To meet this demand, we have developed the CC 425 model, which is being used in 15-meter buses,” he explains.

The company also manufactures and supplies electronic products for buses, representing 20% of sales, such as electronic route displays, LED lighting, and DC/DC converters. In this area, a new generation of panels and controllers for air conditioning systems is under development, promising easier operation with more comprehensive fault diagnostics.

Spheros’ best-selling climate control products in Brazil include the CC 356 air conditioning system, used in urban, intercity, and tourist buses, both in Brazil and in export markets, as well as the CC 430 models for Double Decker buses, and the CC 205 family for mini buses. Among the electronic components, the main products are electronic route displays and LED strips for internal bus lighting.
